Miles-Moore Ceramics Fine Dining at Home Range Launch

Over the Spring and the Summer it became obvious to us that we need to change our focus and think creatively. Our lovely hotel and restaurant customers were in for a bumpy ride and this would significantly impact on our business, it was time to think creatively. Working with some of the best Chefs in the UK we have learned a lot about what makes a good or a bad plate or bowl.

How robust they are really matters, professional kitchens are tough environments.

How they match the food; this might be about colour or shape, size or depth is important as it changes how we look at our food.

Telling the same story as the food, there is a huge clash between locally sourced, foraged and lovingly prepared food and a mass produced imported vessel. Great dining ware really enhances the whole dining experience by helping the diner focus, and immerse themselves in their meal. As our poet friend Geoff Cox puts it :

Before you eat, consider the source of your hunger, Good food will nurture your body, fine food will delight your eye How will you feed your spirit? Look beyond the food, consider the craft of your bowl Reflect on the open heart of your table, celebrate the sharing of friendships listen to words perhaps unsaid Breathe Now it is time to meet your food

We decided to take all our knowledge and experience and launch the unique Miles-Moore Ceramics Fine Dining at Home Range. This means that three times every year Martin will design and make three separate, unique dining services and make them available for sale. Each season will showcase a different style, technique or finish. Martin decided to start by showcasing an idea that had been brewing for a number of months. He had made some Neriagi bowls for Oli Martin at Hipping Hall.

Oli loved them for certain sorts of dishes but commented that they could be challenging to plate up , due to the density of the pattern. Martin had wanted to try a revised and refined version of the technique. In the early autumn he began experimenting and liked the results. So work began.

We put a few little hints out on social media, planning to launch in December, we thought that this Christmas more than any other, people might want to treat themselves. We have been blown away by the response. Our idea was better received than we could have imagined, by November the 26th all three Neriagi Fine Dining at Home Dinner Services had found homes!

Thanks to one of our wonderful patrons, who wanted to support us, but has no room for more of our work at home, one Neriagi dining service has now been donated to our lovely landlords, the Brathay Trust, to be raffled in time for Christmas – so if you missed out on this first release you still could, just possibly could win one! Keep in touch with our social media feeds for more information.

In addition if you would like to be amongst the 1st to see the 2nd release due out in April then make sure that you subscribe to our mailing list ( at the bottom of our home page here) where we will share progress and early images OR if you are even more excited than that please email finedine@milesmooreceramics.com to register your ( no obligation) interest and we will be in touch with you first! If you want to learn more about the wonderful art of Neriagi pop over to our Youtube Channel, subscribe and watch Martin multitask beautifully as he makes and talks you though the process.
