On the 25th of February we were proud to announce that we had been judged to be the Best Designer Makers in Cumbria. The Culture Awards are a partnership between The Arts Council, The University of Cumbria and Cumbria Life.

These popular awards are designed to celebrate the diverse and vibrant arts and cultural offering of our amazing County. In a county that is the biggest visitor economy in the UK, outside of London, art and culture plays an important role.

Last year we met the wonderful Mary Ingham, the Arts Editor of Cumbria Life. She wrote a splendid article about our journey so far and how we work with Cumbrian materials. The photos of this article were taken by Phil Rigby.

Our first inkling that we had won, was when we saw a post by Writer of the Year MV Craven, in which we thought we noticed Martin’s  sleeve from one of Phil’s photos. It was still a bit overwhelming to get official confirmation.

Winning any award is always an honour. In this case the quality of the competition made it even more so.  Jo Vincent works in glass and is a very talented and delightful woman. Paul Scott is an incredible potter who tells powerful stories with his work.

We have been delighted by the feedback we have received from readers and followers of Cumbria Life and from our friends and supporters . Thank you all.
