Ceremonial Vessels for Tea

A Chawan is chosen by a Tea Master to integrate with the overall mood they are trying to create in a tea room. This mood must reflect the season, the purpose of the tea ceremony , the guests and the host of the ceremony as well as the type of tea being used.

The form of a Chawan is determined by its’ function. Some of the elements of its’ function are ergonomic, how the bowl is handled by  both Tea Master and guest. Some of the elements are spiritual, how the Chawan links the participants back to the natural world and its’ energies.
