All over the world potters and collectors are inspired by ancient tea drinking cultures from Japan, Korea and Japan. Each of these traditions have their own particular aesthetic and approaches.
As this interest has spread, definitions and approaches have changed; practice, form and function have evolved. Martin is keen to root his practice in the formal rituals of the Japanese tea ceremony and is humbled to be working with a Tea Master to ensure his ceremonial vessels are fit for purpose. For this reason we present Tea Bowls for everyday use separately to those for ceremonial use. Ceremonial vessels are known as Chawan.
